Washington runs its own food worker card program: a $10 course and test, due within 14 days of starting work. This free practice test mixes questions on Washington's rules (the deadline, the 2-, 3-, and 5-year cards, and who needs one) with the food safety questions the state's course covers.
How it works: the full 30-question test includes all 8 questions on Washington's rules, mixed with questions from our core bank of 98; the quick 15-question round includes 5 of them. Questions and answer order are shuffled every time, and your answers stay in your browser.

The food handlers test in Washington
In Washington, the food handlers test is the test at the end of the state food worker card course. A food card test is that same exam. The official online course and test are at foodworkercard.wa.gov, and some local health departments give the class and the test in person. You take the course, pass the test, pay $10, and the card is issued. This page is free practice for that test.
The state course takes about an hour. Get the card within 14 days of starting work. A first card is valid for 2 years. An on-time renewal is valid for 3 years, and a 5-year card is available with extra approved training. The quiz above mixes Washington's rules — the deadline, who needs a card, and the 2-, 3-, and 5-year cards — with the food safety topics the state course teaches. The 30-question round includes every Washington-specific question in our bank. The quick round includes 5 of them. Our Washington Food Worker Card: How to Get Certified Step by Step has the steps and the rule citations, including why cards from other states are not accepted.

How the real Washington exam works
The real card comes only from the state's program: online at foodworkercard.wa.gov, or in person at some local health departments. You take the course, pass the test, pay $10, and get a card valid for two years, then three years with each on-time renewal. Our Washington Food Worker Card: How to Get Certified Step by Step walks through each step, with sources.
